          House stock is 340 pair. Sizes we hold: youth 1 (12 pr.), youth 2 (19 pr.),
          youth 3 (13 pr.), adult 4 up (296 pr.). Every party in the building lands in
          youth 1 to 3. That is 44 pair for the whole evening and there are three parties
          in the room. Give me your sizes on the slip and I will set them behind the
          counter with the child's name on the box.

  1. A HEADCOUNT ONE WEEK AHEAD. WRITE IT ON THE SLIP. I BUY POP AGAINST IT.

  2. SHOE SIZES FOR EVERY CHILD, IN ADVANCE, ON THE SLIP. THIS IS THE ONE NOBODY FILLS IN AND IT IS THE ONE THAT DECIDES HOW YOUR PARTY GOES. TWO PARTIES OF FIFTEEN EIGHT-YEAR-OLDS WILL EMPTY MY SIZE 2 BY QUARTER PAST SEVEN. AFTER THAT THE ANSWER IS A SIZE 3 AND TWO PAIRS OF SOCKS.

  3. ARRIVE FIFTEEN MINUTES EARLY. FITTING TWELVE CHILDREN TAKES ELEVEN MINUTES AND I HAVE TIMED IT.

  4. ONE ADULT STAYS THE WHOLE TWO HOURS. NOT AT THE SNACK BAR. IN THE ROOM.

  5. THE DEPOSIT, WHEN YOU BOOK. CASH OR CHECK. IT IS NOT REFUNDABLE AND I WILL TELL YOU WHY: A SATURDAY PARTY THAT CANCELS ON THURSDAY CANNOT BE REBOOKED, THE ROOM SITS EMPTY, AND I HAVE ALREADY BOUGHT THE POP.

FLOOR TIMES — THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY

        

          

          

          

        

        

          Couples comes up every forty minutes. Backwards follows it.
          The floor guard will pull a skater who is carrying more speed than the
          crowd around him. That is not about the child. Two hundred beginners
          all doing the same speed is a safe floor; one skater doing double is not,
          and it is the difference that does it, not the speed.
        

      


      

        
HOUSE RULES

        

          
    
            
  1. Skate counterclockwise. Always. The guard will turn you.
    2. 
            
  2. No food, no pop, no gum on the maple. The floor is sealed urethane over hard rock maple and sugar is the worst thing that can land on it.
    3. 
            
  3. Walk the carpet strip from the rental counter to the floor gate. Do not walk on your wheels across the concrete. The strip is there so you don't and it is the single best thing we do.
    4. 
            
  4. NO SPEED SKATING DURING ALL-SKATE. NO EXCEPTIONS AND NO ARGUING WITH THE GUARD AT THE RAIL.

  5. Children under six stay on the beginner half until a guard says otherwise.

  6. DO NOT SIT ON THE RAIL. DO NOT HANG ON THE RAIL. THE RAIL IS NOT FOR SITTING ON.

  7. Rental skates stay in the building. Returned at the counter, not left on a bench.

  8. Falls: keep your weight forward. Most of what we see is a wrist or a tailbone and both come from sitting back.

  9. ONE PERSON PER SKATER. NO CARRYING. NO WHIPS. NO CHAINS OF FOUR.

  10. Lost and found is the barrel by the office. Ninety days, then it goes.

  11. Anybody can come off the floor at couples skate. Nobody has to skate it.
