THE COIN IS THE RULEBOOK!!

official & complete rules for the game we play behind the rec center, as decided in the air, one flip at a time!!!

OKAY so here is the thing and I need you to understand this before you scroll one more inch: nobody wrote these rules down first. There was no meeting!! There was no guy with a clipboard!! There was a coin, and there were eight of us, and there was a question, and the coin went UP and it came DOWN and that was that FOREVER!!!

That is still how it works!! You have a question about the game? GREAT!! Flip for it!! The coin is the only referee we have ever had and honestly the only one we have ever needed and it has never once been wrong, which I admit is easy for a coin, but STILL!!

A referee in black and white, mid-signal — we have never hired one of these, but we admire the confidence
a referee. we have never had one. we looked at pictures once to see what we were missing. (answer per coin: nothing!!)

1

things already settled, do not re-flip, we are begging you

These came down YEARS ago and they came down HARD and we are not litigating them in 1999!!

2

the coin!! ask it something!! it will answer!!

Here is a question the game has genuinely never resolved. Flip it and it is resolved. That's not a joke, that's just how the game works, and now you're part of it, WELCOME!!!

…
?
the coin is waiting. it is extremely good at waiting.

Heads is the blue side. Tails is the pink side. There is no other side. We checked in 1994 with a flashlight.

amendments!! bring your own question!!

Got a dispute the list doesn't cover?? Type it in!! Phrase it so YES or NO both make sense!! The coin loves a clean yes/no and gets sulky with essay questions!!

the rulebook so far — yours, saved, permanent-ish

Nothing yet!! Go flip something!! An empty rulebook is a legal game but a BORING one!!

Your rulebook lives in this browser and nowhere else. Two people reading this page can be playing two completely different and equally official games. That happens all the time out there!! Usually we notice around the second half!!

    conduct, spirit, snacks
Someone playing hockey on ice — a completely different sport with a written rulebook, which must be so relaxing for them
not our game!! theirs is written down!! imagine!!

If the coin rules against you, you say "okay!" and you mean it. That's the whole code of conduct. We have never needed a longer one and Marisol says if we ever write a longer one she's taking the heavy ball home.

Snacks are whatever's in the machine by the side door that still takes the old quarters. The pretzels are the correct snack. The coin confirmed this in August and honestly it did not need to, we all knew.

the rollover!! the big one!! don't panic!! (panic a little!!)

Okay. So. At midnight on December 31 every rule we have ever flipped goes back in the air. That's not a new policy!! That's always been the deal!! It's just that this time the number on the front of the year changes ALL FOUR DIGITS and Dev says that means something and Marisol says it doesn't and I say WHO KNOWS, THAT'S THE POINT, THAT'S THE WHOLE ENTIRE POINT OF HAVING A COIN!!

We are meeting at the field at 11:40pm with three flashlights, a thermos, and the coin. We will re-flip everything in order. Bring a jacket, bring a pen, bring a question you've been sitting on. If the field is dark and the year is new and the heavy ball can't touch a hand anyway, we'll play with the light one, and it'll be the best game any of us have ever had, and in the morning nobody will be able to prove it.

Two people riding a horse at daytime — the coin has twice ruled that horses are allowed, and twice nobody has brought one
horses: permitted!! (flipped 1996, upheld 1998, still zero horses, the invitation stands)
people who have come to ask the coin something
