Kowalczyk. Put the tea down. Five pieces on the bench, four rules on the nail, and one of those pieces was cut to the wrong rule. Which one.
No — don't answer yet. Read the card first. The card gives finished sizes. Finished. That's what comes off the moulding floor cold, not what's lying in front of you. Every piece on that bench is bigger than the number on the card and it's bigger by a different amount depending on what it's going to be poured in.
Lay a rule on a piece. Read it. Say the number out loud. Then say the number off the card. Same or not the same.
The office took this job off a broken part. A cracked impeller in a crate and no drawing with it. Guerrette in sales wrote the ticket and never asked the customer what the original was poured in. Third time this year.
Stock: I said four lengths this morning. It's three. One of them's got a shake running clean through the middle and I'm not putting a shake in a pattern that has to draw out of green sand.
What's the finished bore on the card. Say the number. Now lay the iron rule against piece two. What do you get. Is that the same number or isn't it. So what does that tell you and don't say "nothing."
Correction on the stock again: one of the three has a kerf in it already, somebody started a cut Tuesday and walked off. That's four foot nine usable off it, not five foot two. I had it wrong.
Piece four is a core box. It went on the same ticket — 11-4482 — and it should never have come up those stairs with the other four. It's the negative. Ram it with sand and you get the thing that makes the hole. Every rule you lay across it reads a real number and the number is a cavity, not an outside. Work it off the bore column or don't bother.
Third correction and the last one: two of the offcuts are quartered the wrong way. They'll move with the shop by August. Call it one board, six foot two.
Turn piece three over. Spacebar. Now what do you see on the underside that you didn't see on top, and does the card have a column for it.
Nothing has come back off the moulding floor from this room since March of 1949. That includes everything Guerrette has written up wrong since March of 1949. The pattern goes down Monday morning. Pick your rule.
