Hands off the gate, hands on the lever. Drag the brass handle up for UP, down for DOWN — two notches each way, fast and slow. Middle is OFF and that’s where the brake lives.
Watch the painted marks on the rails behind the gate, not the dial. The dial lags. The rails don’t.
