Wayne's father took this at Higgins Lake the week before Karen Lynn started fourth grade. Bobby would not take the orange swim trunks off for three whole days, even at supper. The magnet slips a little and I keep meaning to fix it but then I look at it.
Higgins Lk. — Aug '71
The storm window over the kitchen sink has a crack from when Bobby threw the rake. The Vanderlaan boy says he can come Saturday morning at nine. Wayne sleeps until ten on Saturdays so I have to be the one to answer the bell.

LETTERS — TALLY

I count the letters out when I write so I know I have not left one out by mistake. Joanne and I both did this when we were girls — she always got further than I did. The pencil dots are mine from yesterday.

Margaret called Wednesday about whether I want her old Singer when she and Ray move to Florida. I have not called her back. I want to say yes and I want to say I already have my mother's Singer and I do not know how to do both at the same time.
Bobby's horse, last Tuesday. He says her name is Princess Marjorie and she lives in the garage. The garage has no horse. The garage has a Buick and a snowblower and Wayne's box of saved trophies from high school. I love this drawing more than I have words for.

Monday is fish sticks. Karen Lynn would rather starve. I sent her with a peanut-butter sandwich and the milk money in the small envelope and a note for Miss Pelletier saying she may sit alone at the end of the table if she likes — she likes.

Robert fell at recess — scraped knee, no stitches. He was very brave. ✓
Mrs. Tibbetts at school called Tuesday. Bobby went over the fence at recess and his knee was bleeding but he did not cry until he saw the blood. She told me he was very brave and she wrote it on the slip with a check mark. I keep this one where I can see it.
TUNA NOODLE BAKE
(— Phyllis A., '64)
1 can tuna, drained
1 c. egg noodles, cooked
1 can mushroom soup
½ c. milk · ½ c. peas
crushed potato chips on top
350° · 25 min · serves 4
Phyllis Aldrich brought this in a card file when Bobby was born. I have made it forty-one times. Wayne says it is the only thing I cook that he would eat every night for the rest of his life if someone made him pick one. The grease spot in the corner is from October 1968.

Fifteen cents off Tide, expires next month. I will use it Saturday. I always say I will use it Saturday. There is one from August on the back of the freezer that I never used and now it is expired and I keep that one too because Karen Lynn cut it out for me.

— K. Lynn L. —
Karen Lynn got this for memorizing all twelve apostles in order at Sunday school. She practiced for two weeks at the kitchen table. She came home with the ribbon and said, very seriously, "I did not even believe in any of them, Mom, I just like the list." I do not know what to do with that child.

Bobby left this on my pillow on Tuesday before he went to school. I have not answered him yet. The answer is yes, mostly, but not the way they can see in the daytime — and I want to tell him the right way and I have not had a quiet minute to sit down with him about it.
