"When Walt got our Zenith going Tuesday night, my husband called the children in from the porch one by one. We turned out the lamps. The screen warmed up the way bread warms up in the oven, slow and even. When the announcer said 'Good evening,' my youngest, Patsy, said 'Good evening' back, very polite, like he was in the room with us. None of us laughed. We just sat there in the glow until the program finished. I keep thinking about that — how he was polite to the announcer. That's the kind of thing a television does that I wasn't ready for."
